The production committee of the movie One Piece Film Red based on Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga has won the special Elan d’or award for outstanding achievement during the year 2022.
The award was announced on February 2 and was selected by All Nippon Producers Association for films and television productions, new actors, and program producers.
The award was presented by Kaori Nazuka who was also the voice actor for the movie’s main character Uta. Post winning the award she said, “I am very happy to be a part of such a wonderful award-winning film. This work has been loved for many years. It’s thanks to Eiichiro Oda-sensei (the original author) and all the fans. I hope to continue to do my best to bring the character to life, and I hope you will continue to support the world of animation.“
The movie earned 19.7 billion yen in Japan with 14.27 million spectators watching the movie. Whereas, the overseas revenue is 12.2 billion yen.
The movie surpassed the earnings of Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle which had earned 19.7 billion yen in Japan and by doing so it has also knocked out Princess Mononoke of the top 10 list of highest earning anime movies.
The movie is behind Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train, Spirited Away and Your Name.
The movie also was the biggest opening for an anime film in France. It was also the fastest anime film in Thailand to reach 100 million bhat (US$3.05 million). It is the highest-grossing anime film in Indonesia.
Furthermore, it had the highest opening for a PG-12 movie in Saudi Arabia. The movie has also recorded approximately US$30 million in China. It is still playing in certain countries and territories around the world.
One Piece Film Red opened in Japanese theaters on August 6. Crunchyroll released the film in English-speaking countries last November, starting with Australia and New Zealand on November 3 then followed by the United States and Canada on November 4.
The movie is said to be earning well in European market as well.
The EMEA Community Marketing Manager of Crunchyroll, René Kayser, posted an update on LinkedIn stating that the One Piece Film Red has garnered over 100,000 attendees on its first day and is at the top of the movie rankings in Germany.
He further stated that the movie might surpass Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie at the German box office. This is considering that the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie had the biggest anime movie opening in Germany in last 15 years.
The movie opened in Japan on Aug 6, 2022, collecting over 2 billion yen in its first weekend.
On Aug 11, PVR cinemas placed standees across multiple theatres in Mumbai revealing that One Piece Film Red will release in India in October 2022.
Goro Taniguchi returns to the franchise for the first time since 1998 to direct One Piece Film: Red. Tsutomu Kuroiwa will be in charge of the screenplay. TOEI Animation is animating the film with original author Eiichiro Oda serving as executive producer.

The movie features and centers on the mysterious character Uta, who is teased to be Shanks daughter in the teaser. Uta is voiced by Kaori Nazuka (voice cast) and Ado (singing cast).
